Africa50 was established to help bridge Africa’s infrastructure funding gap by facilitating project development, mobilizing public and private sector finance, and investing in infrastructure on the continent. Africa50 focuses on medium- to large-scale projects that have development impact and offer an appropriate risk-adjusted return to investors. Bringing project development and financing together in one platform, Africa50 seeks to provide support at every stage of the project cycle.
The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) is a defined benefit fund that manages pensions and related benefits on behalf of government employees in South Africa. Established in 1996, it is the largest pension fund in South Africa and one of the largest pension funds in Africa and the world.

Program Overview
In the ever-evolving landscape of global geopolitics, currency volatility and high inflation, Africa pension fund stakeholders find themselves facing a myriad of challenges and uncertainties. Recent events and ongoing conflicts, notably involving China, the Ukraine conflict, and the Israel war, have significant implications for pension plans. China’s economic prowess continues to shape the global financial landscape, and Africa pension plans are not immune to its effects. The ongoing trade tensions between China and other major economies, including the United States, have raised concerns about the stability of global markets.
